Norfolk, a family favourite.

Norfolk has always been a family favourite for us; we love the coastline and pretty villages and towns and the fact that it’s relatively close to London makes it a perfect weekend retreat.

Our recent trip to Sea Watch House in Salthouse turned out to be one of our favourites so far. There were eight of us this time – three generations – and there was something for everyone.

Sea Watch as a holiday rental is so comfy and well thought out. The open plan style downstairs was perfect for family time, gathering to play games and eat together; but big enough to never feel on top of each other. The kids loved the ‘snug’ and would often spend the evenings there, tucked up watching movies and playing games; while we sat round the kitchen table, drinking wine and reminiscing about our childhood trips to the Norfolk coast.

We’d visit the nearby neighbours for fresh eggs and buy delicious smoked salmon from the Smoke Shop in Cley. After breakfast we’d set off on long walks on the heathland behind the house, where the binoculars were constantly twitching at the sight of rare birds and games of hide ‘n’ seek provided endless hours of fun.

We all enjoyed gentle walks to Salthouse beach and the coast, finding great pubs along the way serving wonderful food. Nearby Crabbies was a real treat too and we’d always make sure we picked something up for suppertime back at the house.

There are so many lovely places nearby that are only a short drive away, but for as good as it was to be out, exploring, it was just as good to return to Sea Watch, where we could all snuggle up, enjoy the cosiness of the log fire and play cards, read books or just chat about the day.

From generation to generation, Norfolk remains as special to each of us, year after year.
